Pipefitter helpers, also called pipefitter apprentices, assist pipefitters in the installation and maintenance of pressured piping systems at construction sites. Requirements

  • Ability to utilize and operate a range of tools and equipment in installing, maintaining, and repairing pipe systems.
  • Ability to handle, lift, and move heavy pipes, pipefitting materials and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate with team.
  • Good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Vocational training related to Pipe Fitting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with putting together, operating, managing, and repairing sophisticated piping systems that convey a wide range of liquids and oil products.
  • Review and train to utilize blueprints to accurately install piping systems.
  • Take direction from Pipefitter or other related supervisors.
  • Assist Pipefitters in adjusting, connecting, and installing pipes, ensuring proper alignment and functionality.
  • Assist in the assembly and installation of piping systems such as ductile iron, PVC, steel, copper, stainless steel pipe, and black iron.
  • Assist in the testing of piping systems to identify issues and take corrective measures.
  • Use saws, drills, impact tools, cutting torches, and pipe threaders to cut, thread, and hammer pipes to desired specifications.
  • Weld, solder or cement joints on pipes and pipe fittings to assemble and secure pipes.
  • Attach pipes to fixtures, such as tanks by means of clamps, brackets, or welding equipment.
  • Hoist loads using slings, chains, shackles, hooks, cables, and other rigging equipment.
  • Work in a safe manner.
  • Travel as required.
  • Other duties which may be assigned as needed.
