About The Position

W.M. Schlosser Company, Inc. is seeking a dependable Pipefitter Helper to support Pipefitters and field operations on active construction projects in the Southern Virginia/Richmond, Virginia area. This role assists with preparing work areas, handling tools and materials, and supporting the layout, assembly, installation, repair, and maintenance of piping systems under the direction of a Journeyman Pipefitter, Pipefitter Foreman, or Superintendent.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of demonstrated work experience required; construction, mechanical, plumbing, utility, or pipefitting experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of, or willingness to learn, piping materials, fittings, valves, supports, tools, construction site practices, and pipefitting work.
  • Ability to safely and accurately measure, cut, stage, carry, and position pipe, fittings, tools, and related materials.
  • Strong commitment to jobsite safety, including proper PPE use, safe material handling, and compliance with company and project requirements.
  • Dependable, punctual, detail-oriented, and able to follow instructions, communicate clearly, and work effectively with a team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Journeyman Pipefitters, Pipefitter Foremen, and Superintendents with work preparation, basic layout, and field coordination for piping installations.
  • Help measure, cut, thread, bevel, groove, fit, position, assemble, install, repair, and maintain pipe and related components as directed.
  • Assist with rough-ins, repairs, replacements, underground or site utility piping, and preparation of openings for pipe installation as assigned.
  • Carry, stage, lift, position, organize, clean, and transport materials, tools, and equipment to and from work areas.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, pipe cutters, threading machines, grooving equipment, drills, lifts, and other equipment only as trained and authorized.
  • Follow instructions, communicate questions or concerns promptly, and coordinate with crew members and other trades as directed.
  • Follow company safety policies, OSHA standards, PPE requirements, and safe work practices at all times.
