About The Position

The Pipe Supervisor is responsible for implementing the Ten Fundamentals of Supervision, ensuring a safe and comfortable working environment, setting and monitoring time goals, and overseeing the work performance of the pipe department personnel. This role involves enhancing skill development, managing timekeeping, fostering effective communication, and providing motivation to the team. The supervisor is also responsible for on-the-job training for trainees and apprentices, and providing feedback to the Pipe Foreman on performance and recruitment needs. Additionally, the supervisor plans material requirements, generates requisitions, ensures economic use of materials, controls and maintains company equipment, and ensures regular maintenance is performed. Quality control is a key aspect, involving inspection of work, implementation of quality standards, and identification of corrective actions. The supervisor also contributes to production planning, implements improvements, sets daily goals, and reports status to the Foreman.

Requirements

  • A minimum of three years ship building experience or five years in a relevant field.
  • A good practical understanding of how ships and associated components or systems are fabricated or assembled
  • Possesses the ability to schedule and monitor tasks
  • Basic computer skills, Outlook, excel beneficial but not essential.
  • Experience in achieving schedule dates and budgets.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints
  • Ability to ensure his direct reports work complies with the Austal pipe standards book
  • 18 years of age or older at time of application
  • Able to provide proof of US Person Status
  • No felony convictions of Theft/Deception or Violent crimes within seven years from disposition date
  • No felony convictions of Drug crimes within three years from disposition date
  • Willing to submit to a drug screen
  • Willing to submit to a background check

Responsibilities

  • Implement the Ten Fundamentals of Supervision
  • Ensure working environment is conducive to worker comfort and safety
  • Set and monitor time goals for all tasks
  • Monitor work performance of staff daily and undertake assessments as required
  • Enhance and encourage skill development of staff
  • Monitor timekeeping and verify hours
  • Encourage effective communications and flexibility within the team and gain an understanding of their needs and problems
  • Provide motivation, maintain a high level of morale and minimize confrontation
  • Ensure on-the-job training and instruction is provided for trainees and apprentices
  • Provide feedback to Foreman on performance and recruitment requirements
  • Provide constant feedback to Foreman regarding: Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, Morale
  • Plan material requirements
  • Generate requisitions for Foreman’s approval to be obtained from stock yard
  • Ensure the economic use of materials and consumables to meet targets of quality and material elimination
  • Control and maintain records of company equipment and machinery under his control
  • Ensure regular maintenance of company equipment and machinery is undertaken in conjunction with the relevant Department
  • Ensure a safe working environment is maintained
  • Attend to injuries of staff and follow up with necessary paperwork
  • Ensure your team’s housekeeping is maintained and promoted
  • Inspect work and ensure quality is maintained during all phases of work
  • Inspect and sign off all completed work
  • Implement and maintain quality standards, check sheets and procedures
  • Ensure company policies and procedures are understood and adhered to
  • Identify and record problems and initiate or recommend corrective action to your Foreman
  • Shall notify Foreman when a system or equipment is ready for survey and then the Foreman shall re-inspect the area with the supervisor
  • Plan future work
  • Provide input for production schedules and provide weekly updates
  • Actively plan and implement production improvements
  • Set daily goals, monitor progress throughout the day and report status to Foreman before end of shift
  • Ensure every effort is made to reach agreed milestone and production schedule dates
