Responsibilities

Excavate trenches to desired or required depth by hand or using excavator
Grades and levels base of trench, using tamping machine and hand tools
Set up dewatering equipment to keep water level below bottom of trench
Lays out route of pipe, following written instructions or blueprints
Lays pipes in trenches and welds, cements, glues, or otherwise connects pieces together
Set pipe structures to line and grade
Backfills pipe and structures with earth or other materials with required compaction
Checks slope, using carpenter's level or lasers
Maintain line and grade of the installed pipe to meet specification requirements
Install erosion control around completed pipe and structures
Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
Experience in installing bulkheads in pipe and structures, including the mixing and use of mortar
Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials
Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources
Attend training and have a full understanding of trenching requirements and regulations
Follow all OSHA and Company safety policies and procedures, including attendance at safety meetings
Maintain a safe and clean work environment
