Requirements

  • Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in maintenance work.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Four (4) to Six (6) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level).
  • A-class Pipefitter requires basic knowledge of field drawings, sketches, and engineering drawings.
  • Basic knowledge of connecting flanged pipe connections using a cross pattern bolting technique.
  • Ability to read and utilize a tape measure properly.
  • Ability to understand and utilize a framing square as it is applicable to pipefitting tasks.
  • Knowledge of how to properly utilize power tools to prepare pipe for cutting, welding, threading, and bolting.
  • A-class pipefitters must be able to make accurate and precise weld connection fit ups.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must be able to pass a health/drug screen.
  • Must be able to pass a craft test.
  • Must be able to pass safety council courses.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator and other PPE.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace.

Nice To Haves

  • NCCER highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and maintains piping and piping systems, fixtures, and equipment for various industrial systems.
  • Selects and inspects proper safety gear.
  • Selects appropriate pipe and related materials based on job specifications.
  • Inspects worksites for obstructions and potential structural weaknesses.
  • Plans installation sequences to avoid conflicts with other workers and obstructions.
  • Cuts, threads, and bends pipe.
  • Assembles and installs various metal and nonmetal pipe fittings.
  • Joins pipe using threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints.
  • Secures pipe to structures using clamps, brackets, supports, and hangers.
  • Installs and maintains refrigeration and air-conditioning systems.
  • Tests piping systems for leaks.
  • Utilizes a variety of power tools.
  • Performs additional assignments as directed by a supervisor.
