Requirements

Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in maintenance work.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Four (4) to Six (6) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level).
A-class Pipefitter requires basic knowledge of field drawings, sketches, and engineering drawings.
Basic knowledge of connecting flanged pipe connections using a cross pattern bolting technique.
Ability to read and utilize a tape measure properly.
Ability to understand and utilize a framing square as it is applicable to pipefitting tasks.
Knowledge of how to properly utilize power tools to prepare pipe for cutting, welding, threading, and bolting.
A-class pipefitters must be able to make accurate and precise weld connection fit ups.
Must be able to pass a background check.
Must be able to pass a health/drug screen.
Must be able to pass a craft test.
Must be able to pass safety council courses.
Must be able to wear a respirator and other PPE.
Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace.

Responsibilities

Lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and maintains piping and piping systems, fixtures, and equipment for various industrial systems.
Selects and inspects proper safety gear.
Selects appropriate pipe and related materials based on job specifications.
Inspects worksites for obstructions and potential structural weaknesses.
Plans installation sequences to avoid conflicts with other workers and obstructions.
Cuts, threads, and bends pipe.
Assembles and installs various metal and nonmetal pipe fittings.
Joins pipe using threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints.
Secures pipe to structures using clamps, brackets, supports, and hangers.
Installs and maintains refrigeration and air-conditioning systems.
Tests piping systems for leaks.
Utilizes a variety of power tools.
Performs additional assignments as directed by a supervisor.
