About The Position

Structural Mechanical Systems (SMS) is seeking an experienced and dependable Pipe Fitter to join our growing marine and industrial services team. This position is responsible for the installation, fabrication, maintenance, and repair of piping systems aboard naval vessels, commercial ships, and industrial facilities. The ideal candidate will have experience working with high-pressure piping systems, blueprints, pipe fabrication, and shipyard or industrial construction environments. We are looking for motivated professionals who value safety, teamwork, and quality craftsmanship. SMS supports a wide range of marine mechanical, piping, fabrication, and repair services.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of pipe fitting experience in marine, shipyard, industrial, or mechanical environments
  • Experience with high-pressure piping systems preferred
  • Ability to read blueprints, isometric drawings, and technical documents
  • Knowledge of pipe fabrication, fitting techniques, and mechanical systems
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment
  • Strong understanding of pipe materials, fittings, and installation procedures
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and travel if needed
  • Must be able to lift 50+ pounds, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces
  • Must be able to pass background checks, drug screening, and site access requirements

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 10, OSHA 30, or shipyard certifications are a plus
  • Navy or commercial ship repair experience
  • Experience with hydraulic, steam, chilled water, fuel, and seawater systems
  • Pipe bending, threading, and fabrication experience
  • Knowledge of NAVSEA standards and shipboard systems
  • Welding or tack welding experience is a plus
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Braze, Install, assemble, fabricate, and repair piping systems and pipe supports
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics, and technical specifications
  • Measure, cut, bevel, thread, bend, and fit pipe to required tolerances
  • Work with carbon steel, stainless steel, copper-nickel, PVC, and other piping materials
  • Install valves, pumps, hangers, flanges, and related mechanical components
  • Perform hydrostatic testing, inspections, and troubleshooting of piping systems
  • Lay out piping systems according to project specifications and safety standards
  • Collaborate with welders, machinists, riggers, and supervisors to complete projects efficiently
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, NAVSEA, and company safety requirements
  • Ensure work areas remain clean, organized, and safe at all times
