About The Position

Rhoads Industries is seeking a Pipe Fitter to join their dynamic, fast-paced, and growing team. The Pipe Fitter is responsible for preparing and fitting pipe spools for welders and installs complex piping systems for machinery, equipment, and systems according to verbal, written instructions, piping and instrumentation diagrams (PI&Ds), and engineered drawings compliant with construction documents. Rhoads Industries is a total solution provider of industrial fabrication, mechanical/maintenance, and maritime services, with expansive shipyard facilities and over 300,000 square feet of heavy manufacturing space located in The Navy Yard in Philadelphia.

Requirements

  • Proven work history fitting pipe for welders in spooling and targeting pipe layouts at final install.
  • Exceptional math skills relating to pipe fitting/layout using tables, formulas, fitting charts, etc.
  • Must be able to both fit and connect process piping by means of welding, sweating, swaging, gluing, bolting, threading, clamping, etc.
  • Able to use various measurement and fitting tools such as measuring tape, levels, veneers, plum bob, laser levels, flange pins, centering points, pipe wrap, hand tools, and power tools, etc.
  • Possess a full range of mechanical knowledge as well as the ability to fabricate and install piping and equipment as specified in work instruction.
  • Work within assigned groups to move and position work pieces using overhead cranes, chain falls, jacks, and other material handling equipment.
  • Has excellent communication skills and a team player.
  • A strong customer service focus is essential to succeed in this position.
  • Interested candidates should be willing to work flexible hours to meet the installation needs of our customers to include night shift.
  • Able to work routine overtime.
  • Have all the necessary hand tools to perform their discipline.
  • High school graduate and a history of at least five years in pipe fitting is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience fitting and assembling piping per NAVSEA Technical Publication 278 is a plus
  • Having an up-to-date OSHA/10 a plus

Responsibilities

  • Reads and deciphers work scope, engineered drawings, and PI&Ds to determine piping layouts and build methods.
  • Interprets bill of material assuring all assemblies are in alignment with material called out.
  • Layout piping runs to targets, assures proper fit up to users and main tie-ins.
  • Prepares and fits up pipe spools for welders compliant and in accordance with technical publications, and specifications.
  • Assembles piping in systems, bolts or otherwise fastens them to foundation, other structures and equipment.
  • Works with welders, installation group and Operation Supervisor.
  • Performs work in a safe manner according to company and site safety standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
