About The Position

Pipe fitters are responsible for installing complex piping systems on ships and in shops. This role involves learning to read blueprints, fabricating, installing, inspecting, and testing various piping systems. The company provides initial training in a Fundamentals of Piping Fitting class and ongoing training to enhance knowledge and skills. Newport News Shipbuilding is the largest industrial employer in Virginia and the sole designer, builder, and refueler of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers, and one of two providers of U.S. Navy nuclear submarines.

Requirements

• Able to work at extreme heights or small confined spaces.
• Able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb.
• Able to lift 40 lbs.
• Must take and pass a respirator fit test.
• Able to work indoors/outdoors year round in all weather conditions.
• Able to work assigned shift as production needs.
• Able to pass Physical Agility Test.
