About The Position

This position is responsible for planning pipe system installation, or repair according to specifications. The role involves inspecting, examining, and testing installed systems and pipelines. The Pipe Fitter will select appropriate pipe sizes and types, along with related materials such as supports and hangers. Responsibilities include measuring and marking pipes for cutting and threading, and attaching pipes to walls, structures, and fixtures. The role also entails assembling and securing pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment using various joint methods. Additionally, the Pipe Fitter will lay out or review full scale drawings of pipe systems and supports, and may provide sketches or corrections on drawings. The position requires turning valves to shut off fluids and removing/replacing worn components. This role may involve other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, one year certificate from college or technical school preferred.
  • Industrial and/or marine pipe fitting experience: 1st Class: 3-5 years
  • Pass the Gulf Copper written pipe fitter and/or hands-on pipe fitter test when applicable.

  • NCCER card preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair according to specifications.
  • Inspect, examine, and test installed systems and pipelines, using pressure gauges, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.
  • Select pipe sizes and types and related materials, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications.
  • Measure and mark pipes for cutting and threading.
  • Attach pipes to walls, structures, and fixtures such as radiators, exchangers, or tanks, using brackets, clamps, tools, or welding equipment.
  • Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment, according to specifications, by using welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, and threading joint methods.
  • Layout or review full scale drawings of pipe systems, supports, and related equipment, following blueprints. Ability to provide sketches or corrections on drawings as needed.
  • Turn valves to shut off steam, water, or other gases or liquids from pipe sections, using valve keys or wrenches. (Marine divisions only)
  • Cut, thread, and install pipe to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, and pipe threaders and benders.
  • Remove and replace worn components.
