About The Position

The Pilot Plant Operator is responsible for manufacturing chemical intermediates and finished products by following established procedures, batch records, General Operating Procedures (GENs), and work instructions. This role involves operating chemical processes as well as performing equipment setup, cleaning, material handling, waste management, warehouse support, maintenance, emergency response, and general housekeeping activities to support safe, efficient, and compliant pilot plant operations. The Operator maintains compliance with safety, quality, environmental, and regulatory requirements while accurately completing required documentation. Employees receive extensive safety, process-specific, and job-specific training before independently performing production duties. This position is currently hiring for 2nd Shift, with a regular schedule of Monday through Friday, 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Overtime, weekend work, holiday work, and temporary alternate shift assignments may be required based on production schedules and business needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Must pass a basic math and reading assessment
  • Must be able to successfully complete a post-offer, job-related medical evaluation consistent with business necessities and applicable law

Responsibilities

  • Operate chemical processes.
  • Perform equipment setup, cleaning, material handling, waste management, warehouse support, maintenance, emergency response, and general housekeeping activities.
  • Maintain compliance with safety, quality, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Accurately complete required documentation.
  • Transfer raw materials, finished products, wastewater, waste solvents, and other wastes between tanks, drums, and shipping containers using pumps, pressure and other equipment.
  • Handle solid chemicals as chemical intermediates, products and waste.
  • Label hazardous waste containers as appropriate to maintain compliance with labeling regulations and times.
  • Maintain records necessary to record process conditions as defined by procedures and as required in certain circumstances.
  • Maintain the production area(s) in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Perform yard and building cleanup as needed.
  • Perform shipping, packaging and receiving activities as needed.
  • Assist the Production Supervisor in record keeping with daily shift report, inventory sheets, and tanker logs.
  • Use company computer/handheld devices to enter records and documents.
  • Attend training as designated to facilitate above knowledge and to maintain required updates.
  • Work in confined spaces.
  • Successfully complete respirator medical evaluations, fit testing, and training as required by OSHA and company procedures and wear respiratory protection as required.
  • Participate in emergency response, spill response, evacuation, and incident mitigation activities consistent with assigned responsibilities and training.
  • Handle drums, buckets, and other containers of hazardous and non-hazardous materials as products or waste.
  • Combine partial drums to ensure all waste drums are 90% full for shipping.
  • Handle waste as needed by scooping, shoveling, and/or bucketing.
  • Repackage wastes for shipment to drum disposal facilities.
  • Clean drums for shipment to drum disposal facilities.
  • Pump waste to tankers as needed.
