About The Position

Then get ready to step onto the court as a Pickleball Instructor with the Plainfield Park District! Our instructors lead dynamic, engaging lessons that help players of all ages discover the joy of the fastest-growing sport in the country. You’ll craft and teach a progressive curriculum, encourage players as they build new skills, and create a supportive, upbeat environment where everyone—beginners and seasoned players alike—can learn, grow, and have a blast. If you’re ready to turn the court into a place of confidence, connection, and plenty of laughter, this is the role for you! Tuesday mornings 7-9am, Thursday evenings 5:30-7:30pm

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Must have at least 2 years of pickleball experience and the ability to demonstrate and teach basic pickleball skills (ability to teach higher level skills preferred).
  • Certification in advanced Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and keep certification current. The District provides this training if needed.
  • Must be highly motivated and able to assume a positive and active role, even while working under potentially stressful conditions (hot or cold weather, upset or injured participants, etc.).
  • Must have the ability to be firm with participants when necessary, enforce park district rules, and make sound decisions in order to secure the safety and well-being of all participants, facilities, and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements progressive curriculum for pickleball lessons, incorporating lessons in safety throughout each session.
  • Evaluates participant skill and interest level throughout each session. Updates curriculum for lessons based on these evaluations.
  • Actively lead lessons, balancing time between individual participants of different skill levels.
  • Effectively breaks-down and demonstrates skills, constantly setting a good example for athletes.
  • Greets athletes they arrive and ensure all students are properly signed in and out.
  • Follows all Park District and program rules; communicates and enforces rules and policies to students and the public.
  • Follows the schedule and rosters for lessons; variances must be weather related and approved by supervisor.
  • Completes attendance reports and accident/incident reports, reporting incidents to supervisor.
  • Directly supervises participants to ensure that they are on task, safe and enjoying their experience.
  • Provides excellent customer service and maintains a positive public image by addressing questions and concerns from staff, patrons, participants immediately. Contacts and asks for assistance from manager or other Park District staff when necessary.
  • Keeps program supplies, equipment and facility space clean, organized and safe. Returns all equipment to its proper place as specified by Park District. Reports maintenance needs to manager; follows-up on status with supervisor and/or maintenance supervisor. Identifies and observes equipment daily for possible maintenance needs and adjustments.
  • Inventories and monitors first aid kit supplies; requisition supplies as needed.
  • Attends staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Wears a Plainfield Park District shirt and identification during all work hours.
