About The Position

Freire Schools is a network of four charter schools in Philadelphia and Delaware dedicated to preparing students from historically underserved communities for college and beyond. The Physics Teacher position is at Freire Charter High School in Center City, Philadelphia. This role involves teaching two sections of Physics and two sections of Pre-Calculus, utilizing high-quality, standards-aligned curriculum to foster deep conceptual understanding, critical thinking about scientific phenomena, and strong problem-solving skills in students. Teachers also have the opportunity to co-lead a class focused on Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and community building twice a week as CREW Leaders.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree or higher
Valid state teaching certification or the ability and willingness to obtain certification.
Strong content knowledge
Positive attitude, sense of humor, and willingness to do whatever it takes to get a job done
At least 2 years of previous successful experience working with diverse student populations

Responsibilities

Create and maintain a classroom culture of critical thinking, rigorous learning, respect for the community, and high achievement for all students.
Leverage content specific curriculum and create learning materials to promote critical thinking and problem solving.
Establish consistent communication rhythms with families regarding individual student progress and school related information.
Actively participate in professional development and collaboration with staff to support the needs of our students.
Co-lead a class focusing on SEL and community building twice a week as a CREW Leader.
