About The Position

Brentwood School is seeking a full-time Upper School science teacher to begin in August of 2026. The ideal candidate will have strong experience teaching high school-age students and one or more degrees in science, with experience in independent, public, private, or charter schools. The role involves teaching physics courses, serving as an advisor, making science relevant, communicating with students and parents, revising curriculum, utilizing educational technology, fostering an inclusive environment, and engaging in professional development. Additional duties include participating in school life through club advising, admission events, chaperoning, and attending student activities.

Responsibilities

  • Teach four sections of physics courses, including 9th Grade Conceptual Physics at a regular and/or honors level (other science sections potentially available based on the candidate’s experience)
  • Serve as an advisor to a group of students
  • Make science meaningful and relevant by inspiring students
  • Communicate with students and parents as necessary
  • Revise and plan new curriculum in conjunction with other members of the science department
  • Utilize educational technology throughout instruction and coursework
  • Engage and support students of varied identities, lifestyles, and beliefs
  • Create an environment that fosters open discussion with the freedom to express varied points of view
  • Engage in professional and personal development with a consistent commitment to growth
  • Participate and initiate opportunities that demonstrate one's growth, knowledge, and skills
  • Perform additional duties and participate in the life of the school by advising a club, attending admission events, chaperoning events, and attending student activities
