About The Position

Sanford Clinic Surgical Associates (SCSA) is seeking a Fellowship Trained BC/BE Surgical Critical Care Surgeon to join its experienced FACS surgeons and advanced practice providers. SCSA has the largest and most experienced group of general surgeons in South Dakota. Experienced candidates preferred but new graduates will also be considered. The physician will cover the Surgical Critical Care Service and Acute Care Surgery/Trauma Surgery Service. The SICU is located within Sanford USD Medical Center, with a Surgical Center Clinic attached to the hospital. This is a Level I Verified Adult & Level II Pediatric Trauma Center. The role involves working with and teaching Surgical Residents and Advanced Practice Clinicians (Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physician Assistants, and Nurse Practitioners).

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree
  • Must be Board Eligible/Board Certified
  • Must be Fellowship Trained in Surgical Critical Care
  • Successful completion of a hospital affiliated surgical residency program or a clinical fellowship of at least five years’ duration accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada.
  • Certification by the appropriate specialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable.
  • Those applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their residency training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their residency training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement.

  • General Surgery Core Privileges include the ability to admit, evaluate, diagnose and provide pre-, intra-, and postoperative care and perform surgical procedures for adolescents and adults (except where specifically excluded from practice and except for those special procedure privilege), to correct or treat various conditions, illnesses, and injuries of the alimentary tract, abdomen and its contents, breast, skin, soft tissue, head and neck, endocrine system, and minor extremity surgery.
  • Surgery Core privileges also include the ability to provide for the on-call emergent/urgent needs of the pediatric and pre-adolescent surgical patient within the core privilege definition.
