About The Position

The St. Charles Interventional Cardiologist is responsible for providing Cardiology services in the inpatient and outpatient setting. This includes evaluation & management services, interpretation of cardiac diagnostic studies, interventional cardiology procedures including diagnostic angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention. Interventional Cardiology will work in collaboration with other medical specialties to assess and manage patients following established standards and practices. Work schedule: Full time Physician duties include a blend of procedures, scheduled clinic visits and interpreting cardiac diagnostic studies. This includes clinical documentation and all other necessary duties. 4 days per week. Each provider has a day off each clinic week. Each week consists of a combination of: Bend outpatient clinic: clinic hours between 8am – 5:00 pm, with a minimum of 12 appointment slots daily. Outreach outpatient clinic: Outreach clinic performed at the agreed upon interval based on clinical need in assigned outreach area. Outreach clinic start adjusted depending on distance from Bend campus. Cardiac cath lab: This role is a combination of scheduled elective cases and STEMI coverage. Procedural care days start at 7:30 am until scheduled and inpatient add on cases are completed. 4-5 elective procedures (dependent on anticipated case duration) scheduled for each cardiac cath lab day. Call expectation: Physician will participate in the interventional Cardiology call rotation, which is shared equally by all physicians in the Interventional Cardiology group based on FTE allocation. This shift requirement will adjust based on changes to the FTE structure within the group. Continuous STEMI call coverage Work location: Physician’s inpatient work location is St. Charles Bend Hospital with clinic in the Bend Heart & Lung Center plus any agreed upon Heart & Lung Specialist outreach clinic.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited medical school.
  • Successful completion of an accredited residency program in Cardiology.
  • Successful completion of a fellowship in Interventional Cardiology and board certification / board eligible (within 2 years) in Interventional Cardiology.
  • Fellowship-trained Structural Heart Interventional Cardiologist with ≥2–3 years post-training experience OR Structural cardiologist with 5–10 years of full-spectrum independent experience
  • Required experience in the following procedure scopes: TAVR TEER LAAO PVL closure ASD/PFO closure
  • Oregon license as MD/DO
  • Board certified or eligible in Interventional Cardiology to be board certified or qualified to sit for the boards in primary area of practice at the Hospital.
  • Current ACLS certification required.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to meet SCHS driving requirements.
  • Maintain unrestricted DEA number.
  • Maintain unrestricted ability to participate in Medicare / Medicaid, or other federal or state governmental health care programs.
  • Experienced in hospital and outpatient practice environments providing care in Interventional Cardiology.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.
  • Must have excellent communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse population and professionally represent SCHS.

  • Ability to multi-task and work independently.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills, written and oral communication and customer service skills, particularly in dealing with stressful personal interactions.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Electronic Medical Record systems.
  • Intermediate in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel).

Responsibilities

  • Examines, diagnoses, and provides a broad scope of treatments for cardiac disease processes
  • Performs appropriate cardiac interventions including but limited to diagnostic angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention, pericardialcentesis, placement of temporary pacemaker and other interventional cardiology procedures.
  • Performs cardiac study interpretation for tests appropriate to individual training
  • Performs patient examinations, obtains and records pertinent medical history, subjective, and objective findings.
  • Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory, imaging, and other diagnostic procedures.
  • Utilize appropriate risk calculators as a part of assessment for patients and is familiar with new studies, emerging technology and medications beneficial to the patients being treated.
  • Interprets and integrates data to determine diagnosis, and therapeutic plan.
  • Administers and prescribes medications in compliance with state law and practice guidelines.
  • Orders and performs appropriate medical procedures in accordance with State law and practice guidelines.
  • Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatments.
  • Educates patients regarding health, illness prevention, and healing.
  • Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
  • Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information, documenting clearly and concisely.
  • Triages patient telephone calls, providing consultation as needed.
  • Communicates effectively with colleagues, patients, physicians, staff and administration.
  • Maintains quality of clinical practice by selecting appropriate avenues for professional growth.
  • May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned.
  • Document all patient care within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and complete all necessary tasks in compliance with health system policies and regulatory agencies to ensure timely and accurate billing.
  • Be familiar with the SCHS organization structure.
  • Participate in physician meetings and assist in policy formation for St. Charles and Physician’s practice.
  • Keep medical knowledge and skills current through regular CME activity.
  • Must attest to having adequate (CME) to meet maintenance of board certification and compliance with MSO rules and continuing privileges without restriction.
  • Keep all licenses and appropriate certifications current and unrestricted.
  • Maintain active privileges at St. Charles Health System hospitals sufficient to permit performance of job duties.
  • Structural Heart Medical Directorship (required for national registry participation and quality oversight)

  • Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, supporting the health system’s corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner, reporting known or suspected violations of applicable rules, and cooperating fully with all health system’s investigations and proceedings.
