Physician, Psychiatry - Acute Care Raleigh
About The Position
WakeMed seeks a compassionate, patient-centered Board Eligible or Board Certified Psychiatrist to provide high-quality psychiatric care in its acute care hospitals and emergency departments. The role includes diagnosing and treating psychiatric symptoms in medically complex patients on general medical and surgical units, as well as providing rapid psychiatric evaluations, risk assessments, crisis intervention, and stabilization for emergency department patients. The physician is expected to support a care approach centered on patient autonomy, dignity, and holistic healing.
Requirements
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree.
- Completion of an accredited residency program in Psychiatry.
- Board-certified or board-eligible in Psychiatry.
- Licensed to practice medicine in North Carolina.
- DEA certification and ability to prescribe controlled substances.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
- Fellowship, internship, or residency in a related area required.
Nice To Haves
- Consultation-Liaison (CL) or Emergency Department Psychiatry experience is preferred, but not required.
Responsibilities
- Provide timely psychiatric evaluations for patients with co-occurring medical, surgical, or neurological conditions.
- Recommend medical management and other psychiatric interventions to attending medical and surgical teams.
- Conduct crisis interventions and assessments.
- Determine the most appropriate and least restrictive level of care, coordinating with inpatient psychiatric units, substance abuse facilities, or outpatient community resources.
