About The Position

The Maryland State Department of Education, specifically the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS), is seeking a full-time Physician Program Specialist-Psychiatrist. This role involves reviewing consultative examination (CE) reports for accuracy, completeness, and deficiencies, and participating in the development and implementation of training for examiner staff on the use of medical evidence. The position is located at the Division of Rehabilitation Services Disability Determination Services in Hunt Valley, MD, with a hybrid schedule potentially available (up to 3 telework days per week). The agency's mission is to support a world-class educational system and provide services for students and adults with disabilities to prepare them for college, career, and the workforce, as well as adjudicate Social Security disability claims.

Requirements

A Doctorate degree in medicine from an accredited college or university.
Required for certification in an area of medical specialization by an American Medical Association Specialty Board.
Applicants must be certified by an American Medical Association Specialty Board in an area of medical specialization.
Applicants must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law.
A copy of the current license must be attached to the application.
Conditional job offer and access to Social Security Administration’s (SSA’s) systems, data, information, and/or premises are contingent upon passing the SSA suitability process.
A suitability determination by the Social Security Administration is necessary to determine whether an employee can be issued credentials to access federal systems.

Responsibilities

Review medical evidence to establish the existence, severity, onset, duration, and remediability of impairments.
Analyze the sufficiency of medical evidence to evaluate disability in accordance with Social Security Regulations.
Assess impairment severity and describe functional limitations imposed by impairments.
Prepare written opinions and assure the integrity of the decision based on electronic medical evidence.
Provide guidance and instruction to staff in the medical specialty area.
Review Consultative Examination (CE) reports for accuracy, completeness, and deficiencies in content.
Participate in the development and implementation of training for examiner staff.
