About The Position

Under the administrative supervision of the Regional Medical Director and Center Medical Director, the Physician provides healthcare services to patients in clinic, according to the established principles of clinical practice. This role involves supporting the values, mission, and vision of MBI Industrial Medicine, Inc., demonstrating professional maturity, and fostering a team-centered approach. The Physician will also serve as a leader in the clinic, partnering with the Clinic Administrator and Center Medical Director to promote optimal patient outcomes, efficient work processes, and high staff engagement. The position requires providing healthcare to patients both in clinic and via telemedicine, overseeing Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), performing history and physical exams, providing medical opinions on job accommodations, and participating in the legal processes of workers' compensation. The Physician will evaluate and manage various occupational injuries and conditions, including musculoskeletal injuries, head injuries, chest or abdominal injuries, lacerations, eye injuries, skin conditions, and respiratory symptoms. Treatment responsibilities include interpreting radiographs, prescribing medications and therapy, ordering specialized testing, referring to specialists, identifying activity limitations, and communicating with employers regarding treatment plans and work capacity.

Requirements

MD/DO
Unrestricted Arizona Medical Licensure with no active stipulations
Active full DEA license.
Current BLS certification.
FMCSA certified for DOT exams within 90 days of hire.
Solid, demonstrated knowledge of the practice and application of occupational medicine.
Working knowledge of laws and regulations governing rehabilitation services; of worker’s compensation and clinical procedures/processes; and of diagnoses and treatment of occupational injury and disease.
Working knowledge of medical office administration and procedures.
Sound administration and management skills.
Ability to instruct, teach, and correct.
Confident and professional demeanor with medical providers, administrators, and clients.

Nice To Haves

Board Certification in primary specialty preferred but not required in: Occupational Med, Family Med, Internal Med, Emergency Med, PMR, Orthopedics (preferred, others will be considered)
MRO certification preferred
Ability to perform treadmill stress tests, preferred.

Responsibilities

Provides healthcare to patients both in clinic and via tele-medicine according to the established principles of clinical practice and the current organizational plan or need.
Provides oversight of any Advanced Practice Provider (APP) at the Physician’s clinic location, including providing recommendations on clinical management and treatment plans when the Center Medical director is not on site or available.
Perform complete history and physical exams for the purpose of determining capacity to safely perform specified job functions.
Provide medical opinion regarding job accommodations if needed to safely perform specified job functions.
Participate in the legal process of workers’ compensation, including Samm’s calls, depositions, and testifying in hearings when requested.
Perform Fit for Duty & Return to work evaluations.
Evaluate and manage common occupational musculoskeletal injuries of the neck, back, and upper and lower extremities.
Evaluate and manage work-related injuries to the head with or without loss of consciousness, assuming the individual is currently conscious and alert.
Evaluate and manage work-related injuries to the chest or abdomen, with the possibility of hernias.
Evaluate and manage work-related lacerations of the face, scalp, and extremities.
Evaluate and manage work-related eye injuries, including foreign bodies to the eye, non-penetrating eye injuries, and chemical exposures.
Evaluate and manage work-related rashes and other occupational skin conditions.
Evaluate and manage occupational asthma and other work-related respiratory symptoms.
Treatment of non-displaced uncomplicated fractures, including interpreting radiographs, splinting, and orthopedic referral when appropriate.
Perform complete and accurate history and physical, including detailed documentation of current work-related complaint, mechanism of injury, activity and occupational limitations, leading to accurate diagnosis and medically appropriate management of the patient.
Being aware of OSHA recordability and rendering medically appropriate care, while being aware and sensitive to treatment which makes an injury recordable to the employer.
Prescription of appropriate medications and therapy.
Ordering and interpretation of radiographs.
Referral for specialized testing such as MRI, EMG as necessary and appropriate.
Referral for specialty care as appropriate.
Identification of appropriate limitations to activity at home and work.
Rendering an opinion regarding causality and work relatedness.
Communication with employers at the completion of the first visit to review the treatment plan and work capacity of the patient, and at times through the case as requested from the employer or when deemed necessary by the treating provider.
