About The Position

Corewell Health's department of behavioral health is growing to add a BC/BE Adult Outpatient Psychiatrist to Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital. Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital Behavioral Health is an outpatient psychiatry clinic located in Royal Oak, MI that offers diagnostic psychiatric assessment for adults (age 18 and older) and psychiatric medication follow-up visits. This role includes resident and medical student education. The practice mix includes in-person clinic and tele-psychiatry, with a well-run practice supported by experienced leadership and staff. There is APP support, with 60-minute new and 30-minute return visits in a collaborative, collegial environment. You will be an employed physician, with knowledgeable practice management professionals assisting in day-to-day operations and take advantage of the resources and referral base of the larger Corewell Health East system. Corewell Health is Southeast Michigan’s largest not-for-profit health care system, comprised of eight hospitals, 145 outpatient locations, nearly 5,000 physicians and more than 38,000 employees. It is affiliated with Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, Michigan State University college of Osteopathic Medicine and Wayne State University School of Medicine. There are over 900 residents and fellows in 94 programs. The hospital employed position offers a faculty appointment through Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine and competitive compensation.

Requirements

  • BE/BC Psychiatry
  • Interest in teaching and supervision of medical students, residents and fellows
  • Unrestricted License and DEA - Michigan
  • MD/DO
  • State of Michigan Physician (MD) or Osteopathic Physician (DO) License Upon Hire
  • State of Michigan DEA Registration Upon Hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA or ARC certification within 120 days of hire
  • Adv Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - AHA certification within 120 days of hire

Responsibilities

  • Develop and cultivate positive and productive working relationships with other Corewell Health personnel, and promote a culture of safety, teamwork, compassion, collaboration, clarity, curiosity, and courage.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to service and distinctive, personalized care with both internal customers (coworkers, fellow employees, hospital staff, etc.) and external customers (patients, family members, referring physicians/specialists, etc.), while striving to exceed customer expectations.
  • Assist in meeting operational, financial, and patient satisfaction goals.
  • Timely completion of all specific competencies and annual organizational mandatories.
  • Assess and monitor the medical needs of patients.
  • Provide quality medical services to patients in a cost effective, appropriate manner and ensure coverage of case load at all times.
  • Communicate regularly with patients’ families, referring physicians, specialists, nursing staff and other hospital departments regarding the plan of care and treatment of patients, including within 24 hours of admission, for any major change in a patient’s condition, and within 24 hours prior to discharge.
  • Document medical services in the patient’s medical record in a manner consistent with hospital, payor, and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in on-call and weekend coverage, as required by the Department.
  • Participate in value-based reimbursement programs and quality initiatives, as required by the Department.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement (QI) / Quality Assurance (QA) and peer review activities as requested.
  • Assist, as requested, in the development of policies and procedures as they related to medical practice and quality patient care.
  • Participate in ongoing process improvement activities through the development/application of clinical paths, process improvement and other related activities.
  • Support patient participation in clinical trials and research projects, assess clinical safety and efficacy data, consistent with Research Institute policies.
  • Provide oversight, teaching, and mentorship of fellows, residents, APPs (e.g., physician assistants and advance practice registered nurses), and students and others (as appropriate) providing services to patients, including meaningful participation with the affiliated medical schools as requested.
