About The Position

Bristol Health Medical Group is seeking a dedicated, forward-thinking Occupational Medicine Physician to join our team at our specialized MedWorks facility in Bristol, CT. In this role, you will deliver exceptional, comprehensive care for work-related injuries and illnesses while championing workforce health and safety across the region. You will serve as a vital partner to local employers, collaborate with advanced practice providers, and utilize Bristol Health's seamless continuum of care—including integrated rehabilitation and specialty networks—to facilitate safe, efficient return-to-work outcomes.

Requirements

  • Physician will meet the standards and requirements for Medical Staff membership as defined in the Hospital’s Medical Staff Bylaws, including those for Board Certification and licensure requirements.
  • MD or DO
  • The applicant must be able to demonstrate successful completion of an ACGM/AOA accredited residency in OEM or have completed residency training in other medical specialties.
  • Board certification in the American Board of Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Emergency Medicine, or Preventive Medicine
  • Valid Connecticut medical license, Connecticut Controlled Substance Registration and Federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Certification.
  • Physician may not at the time of holding the position, be an employee, principal or agent of any other healthcare organization or other entity.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates the patient's health care needs and provides necessary services as are indicated.
  • Performs pre-placement physical examinations (including D.O.T., respirator, and asbestos).
  • Performs evaluations of workplace injuries, including care of burns and suturing of lacerations.
  • Performs evaluations of workplace exposures.
  • Performs examinations of company requested second opinions (usually for occupational injuries).
  • Performs follow-up and return-to-work evaluations on occupational injuries.
  • May perform return-to-work evaluations following non-occupational absence (to assess whether duties may be safely resumed).
  • Performs Fitness for Duty Evaluations
  • Proficient in back evaluations, pulmonary evaluations, neurologic evaluations, and dermatologic evaluations.
  • Reads and interprets electrocardiograms, pulmonary function tests, audiograms, and radiographs.
  • Is proficient in eye care procedures, including trauma.
  • Refers the patient to other appropriate physicians for definitive care when indicated.
  • With employee's consent, referral to and communication with the private physician regarding occupational and nonoccupational problems detected during examinations.
  • Explanation of laboratory results for health evaluations and referrals made as indicated.
  • Performs occupational evaluations and consultations.
  • Performs periodic required evaluations for ongoing occupational exposures in compliance with OSHA regulations.
  • Performs on-site occupational consultations, for general evaluation of the workplace or occupational health problems in the workplace.
  • Discusses/dictates findings regarding examination results; completes appropriate medical forms.
  • Discusses findings and workplace restrictions in regards to an injured employee with Human Resources, medical providers and Worker’s Compensation carriers.
  • Provides letters to companies and individuals in regard to the results of examinations.
  • Completes insurance and Worker's Compensation forms.
  • Dictates medical and legal correspondence (to lawyers and insurance companies).
  • Participates in appropriate conferences/seminars and is familiar with appropriate state and federal guidelines.
  • Familiar with State and Federal Occupational Safety and Health Guidelines as well as Occupational Medicine textbooks and journals.
  • Participates in yearly CME's in Occupational Medicine.
  • Participates in symposiums for business/community and in-service education.
  • Citizenship and Compliance.
  • Participate in clinical guideline development, care management programs and quality assurance as directed.
  • Provide input and support to the development and management of the Practice as described above.
  • Participate and comply with BHMSG and Hospital compliance programs and activities, including participation in any compliance education programs deemed necessary or appropriate by BHMSG or Hospital including but not limited to billing and coding compliance programs.
  • Comply with all BHMSG reimbursement requirements including the timely completion of billing slips and accurate coding of services.
  • Attend and participate in regularly scheduled meetings with other physician members of BHMSG and the Hospital.
