About The Position

WVU Medicine East is seeking a Board-Certified/Board-Eligible Metabolic & Bariatric Surgeon to join their surgical team at Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia. The surgeon will provide comprehensive surgical care for patients with obesity and obesity-related diseases, playing a key role in the growth and development of the Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery program. This role involves collaborative work with a multidisciplinary team focused on evidence-based, patient-centered care to improve patient outcomes.

Requirements

MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery.
Fellowship training in Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery.
Eligible for unrestricted West Virginia medical licensure.
DEA registration.
ACLS certification.

Nice To Haves

Experience performing robotic bariatric procedures.
Experience practicing within an accredited Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery program.
Interest in program development, quality improvement, and multidisciplinary obesity management.

Responsibilities

Evaluate and manage patients seeking surgical treatment for obesity and obesity-related comorbidities.
Perform minimally invasive and robotic metabolic and bariatric surgical procedures.
Participate in comprehensive preoperative evaluations and long-term postoperative follow-up.
Collaborate with nutritionists, behavioral health specialists, advanced practice providers, and multidisciplinary team members to optimize patient outcomes.
Participate in patient education and shared decision-making throughout the bariatric journey.
Provide longitudinal management of bariatric surgery patients while supporting lifelong follow-up and weight management.
Assist in the strategic growth and continued development of the Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery program.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, peer review, morbidity and mortality conferences, and performance improvement activities.
Support accreditation standards and quality metrics for the bariatric surgery program.
Collaborate with physician and administrative leadership to expand access to bariatric services throughout the region.
Participate in community outreach, educational seminars, and physician engagement activities promoting metabolic and bariatric surgery.
Participate in medical staff activities and committee work.
Mentor APPs, residents, medical students, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals.
Support physician leadership initiatives and program development.
Participate in continuing medical education and quality improvement activities.
