Physician - Internal Medicine
About The Position
The Oneonta VA Clinic, recently relocated to the FoxCare Center, is expanding its services to local veterans. This facility emphasizes primary care and offers a range of healthcare services, including telehealth specialty care, mental health services, coronary artery stenting, robotic surgery, and advanced endoscopy. The clinic currently serves approximately 1,100 enrolled veterans and anticipates an increase in patient load due to recent federal authorizations for veterans affected by environmental toxins. The current team includes a physician via telehealth, a social worker, a registered nurse, and two LPNs, all dedicated to providing essential services within a half-hour's drive for every veteran.
Requirements
- One year of experience within the last two years as a physician in an internal medicine setting OR successful completion of a Family Practice or Internal Medicine residency program within one year of applying for this position.
- Board certified OR board eligible in Internal Medicine.
- Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.
- Current BLS certification through AHA.
Responsibilities
- Provide services within the scope of clinical privileges granted by the commanding officer and applicable duties in the basic contract.
- Review patient consults, conduct medical record reviews, and perform physical examinations to provide physical readiness waivers for isolated, remote, overseas, or operational assignments for referred Active Duty, Reservist, and Medically Retired personnel.
- Review electronic lab, imaging, consults, and progress note reports daily.
- Enter progress notes for each visit and/or patient contact.
- Complete electronic clinic reminders.
- Utilize computerized physician order entry (CPOE) and approve patient results via electronic signature.
- Perform extensive analysis of service members' medical conditions from various medical evaluations, reports, and therapeutic plans from disparate specialties.
- Integrate findings into a cohesive clinical assessment on how they affect fitness for duty.
- Synthesize requisite documents, such as the narrative summary, for the Medical Evaluation Board process.
- Provide appropriate consultation with each service member.
- Refer for adjunctive primary, alternative, and/or specialty care required to diagnose or treat the service member's medical condition.
- Perform Independent Medical Reviews (IMR) as needed upon request of the patient.
- Participate in assigned committee and/or administrative assignments.
- Perform other duties consistent with the normal duties of a physician as directed by the Commanding Officer.
