About The Position

This position involves providing physician home care services within a hospice setting. The role requires a physician who is knowledgeable in primary medical care, oncology, and palliative medicine, with a focus on managing symptoms associated with terminal illness. The physician must be registered with the Drug Enforcement Agency to prescribe medications and maintain satisfactory medical malpractice and liability insurance.

Requirements

• Member in good standing on the medical staff of an accredited hospital in the state where the hospice is located.
• Knowledge of the principles and practice of primary medical care.
• Working knowledge of oncology.
• Knowledge of palliative medicine, with emphasis on symptom control for terminal illness.
• Registration with the Drug Enforcement Agency to write scheduled prescriptions.
• Medical malpractice and liability insurance in amounts and with carriers satisfactory to VITAS.
• Current license to practice in the state where the hospice program is located.
• Board eligible/certified in Internal Medicine, Family Practice, or other related specialty.
• Working knowledge of the principles of palliative medicine and symptom management.
