About The Position

Central Health is looking for a skilled general surgeon to join our growing practice, committed to serving the underserved community in Travis County. This physician will be responsible for seeing patients in clinic and performing outpatient general surgery procedures including but not limited to laparoscopic cholecystectomy, open and minimally invasive hernia repair, soft tissue surgery, and pilonidal cyst treatment. There is an opportunity to perform upper and lower endoscopy as well. This position will support learners at various levels and may supervise advanced practice providers during direct clinical practice. The primary focus of this role will be seeing patients in clinic as well as performing outpatient elective surgeries and procedures in an Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) while collaborating with Central Health staff to improve care delivery, access, and outcomes for a vulnerable population. While the majority of operations are performed in the ambulatory setting, there is also an opportunity to perform hospital-based elective surgery for appropriate patients.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. from an accredited educational institution.
  • Completion of an accredited residency in General Surgery.
  • 2 years of clinical and surgical experience
  • Unrestricted License to practice medicine in the state of Texas.
  • Board Certification or passage of Board Certification Examination from applicable credentialing body within two years of employment.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration for the purpose of writing prescription.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) ‐ Obtained through approved American Heart Association or Red Cross.

  • 5 years of general surgical experience with 2 years in leadership experience

Responsibilities

  • Within scope of credentialing, performs surgeries and surgical care in an Ambulatory Surgery Center.
  • Prescribes medications and therapies related to the surgical treatment required.
  • Instructs patients and their families regarding procedures performed, plan of care, and follow‐up visit.
  • Directs professional and ancillary health care staff during treatment of patients.
  • Responds to inquiries from staff and patients regarding surgical care and treatments.
  • Compiles patient medical data including health history, treatment plans, results of physical examination, etc. and records in electronic medical record.
  • Actively communicates with others in a clear, understandable, and professional manner in person and on the phone.
  • Demonstrates professional management skills, including the ability to plan, organize and schedule work in an efficient and productive manner, focusing on key priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Actively interact with peers, executives, employees, and consultants in a manner that represents Central Health positively.
  • Plans, promotes, demonstrates, recommends, and coordinates high standards of medical practice.
  • Perform up to 40 hours of direct clinical practice per week.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Actively supports the Director of Specialty Care to support employed and contracted providers within the department.
  • Works in tandem with Central Health's operational and clinical leaders to ensure a collaborative team-oriented environment.
  • Leads and motivates the medical providers under his/her supervision; uses effective medical and people performance management processes.
  • Performs or supports objective annual evaluations of all direct reports with the input from the practice leader and other stakeholders.
