About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is seeking a BE/BC Gastroenterologist to join the current group of general gastroenterologists at the Sanford Center for Digestive Health. This state-of-the-art facility includes 42 exam rooms, 10 procedure rooms, and 39 prep and recovery rooms. The position offers a GI Hospitalist Program that manages the inpatient service, with remaining call shared equally by the group and no weekend call. Sanford USD Medical Center is ranked #32 nationally by US News & World Report for Gastroenterology and Colorectal Surgery and was recognized as a Quality Unit by the ASGE for 2021. A GI Fellowship is set to begin in 2025.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree.
  • Successful completion of an Internal Medicine residency program.
  • Completion of a fellowship in Gastroenterology accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada in the residency.
  • Certification in the primary area of practice by the appropriate specialty/ subspecialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable.
  • Applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their fellowship training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their fellowship training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement.
  • Demonstrate active involvement in 50 gastroenterology cases in the last 12 months.
  • If just completed fellowship, provide fellowship log.
  • If not applying directly out of fellowship, provide a quality profile from hospital(s) where he/she currently has privileges showing clinical activity for the last 12 months, including numbers of procedures performed, morbidity, mortality, infection rates, and other complications.
  • If a quality profile is not available from the hospital(s) where the applicant currently has privileges, documentation of the applicant’s clinical activity for the last 12 months is required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform history and physical examinations.
  • Admit patients (if applicable to the setting).
  • Provide consultative services.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and provide nonsurgical care to adolescent and adult patients presenting with illnesses, injuries, and disorders of the stomach, intestines, and related structures, such as the esophagus, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas, including biopsies.
