About The Position

Sanford Health is seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible Family Medicine physician for a fast-growing practice in Detroit Lakes, MN. This multispecialty group practice includes Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Dermatology, Audiology, Orthopedics, Ob/Gyn, Surgery, Podiatry, Optometry, Psychology, Psychiatry, and Physical/Occupational/Speech Therapy. The service region has a population of 55,000. Outreach specialties include Allergy, Cardiology, Medical Oncology, Nephrology, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Pain Management, and Urology. Call is 1:6 shared with Internal Medicine, with Family Medicine covering pediatrics call. A local hospital employs a 24/7 hospitalist service. The role also involves covering monthly nursing home/TCU rounds at a local long-term care facility. On-site services include a pharmacy, walk-in clinic, lab, imaging, and an ambulatory surgical center.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree.
  • Successful completion of a Family Medicine residency program accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada.
  • Certification in the primary area of practice by the appropriate specialty/subspecialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), as applicable.
  • Applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their residency training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their residency training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement.
  • Demonstrate active involvement in the clinical aspects of Family Medicine by providing a case log that includes 25 vaginal deliveries, 50 adult medical patients, and 10 inpatient care of children under the age of 18 (excluding normal newborn), as applicable to privileges being requested, in the last 12 months.
  • For applicants not applying directly out of residency: provide a quality profile from hospital(s) where he/she currently has privileges showing his/her clinical activity for the last 12 months, including numbers of procedures performed, morbidity, mortality, infection rates, and other complications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform history and physical examination.
  • Admit patients (if applicable to the setting).
  • Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and provide consultation to patients of all ages with a wide variety of illnesses, diseases, injuries, mental health conditions, and functional disorders of circulatory, respiratory, endocrine, metabolic, musculoskeletal, hematopoietic, gastroenteric, integumentary, nervous, female reproductive, and genitourinary systems.
  • Provide pre-operative care of surgical patients.
  • Provide post-operative medical care of surgical patients.
  • Address return to work issues.
  • Cover monthly nursing home/TCU rounds at a local long-term care facility.
