About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is looking to add Family Medicine physicians to its busy primary care practice at Sanford Watertown Clinic. The role involves shared call with pediatricians, including newborns, C-sections, and pediatric admits. Adult call is phone call only due to a hospitalist program. The clinic is supported by RN Care Managers and an Integrated Health Therapist. Full clinic services are available, including a full lab, x-ray department, ultrasound, 3D mammography, and physical therapy. Outreach services for various specialties are also available, and surgical specialties are offered at the medical center. Watertown is a growing community of over 20,000 people with a service area of over 60,000, offering a variety of cultural, entertainment, and shopping opportunities.

Requirements

M.D. or D.O. degree.
Successful completion of a Family Medicine residency program accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada.
Certification in the primary area of practice by the appropriate specialty/subspecialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), as applicable.
Applicants not board certified at the time of application but who have completed residency training within the last five years must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their residency training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement.
Demonstrate active involvement in the clinical aspects of Family Medicine by providing a case log that includes 25 vaginal deliveries, 50 adult medical patients, and 10 inpatient care of children under the age of 18 (excluding normal newborn), as applicable to privileges being requested, in the last 12 months.
For applicants not applying directly out of residency, provide a quality profile from hospital(s) where he/she currently has privileges showing clinical activity for the last 12 months, including numbers of procedures performed, morbidity, mortality, infection rates, and other complications.

Nice To Haves

Training at residency programs accredited by organizations other than ACGME, AOA, or Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada may be considered via the waiver of eligibility process as defined in the Credentialing Policy.

Responsibilities

Perform history and physical examination.
Admit patients (if applicable to the setting).
Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and provide consultation to patients of all ages with a wide variety of illness, diseases, injuries, mental health conditions and functional disorders of circulatory, respiratory, endocrine, metabolic, musculoskeletal, hematopoietic, gastroenteric, integumentary, nervous, female reproductive, and genitourinary systems.
Provide pre-operative care of surgical patients.
Provide post-operative medical care of surgical patients.
Address return to work issues.
