About The Position

Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC), a member of Dartmouth Health (DH), is seeking an inaugural Family Medicine Residency Program Director. This is the first family medicine residency administered by DH, with a commitment to establishing a new program at SVMC in Bennington, Vermont. The residency program is anticipated to start in 2029 with 6 residents. Residents will train primarily at SVMC, with opportunities for rotations at DH. SVMC is well-suited for training rural family medicine residents due to its busy emergency department, active labor and delivery service, and upcoming adolescent behavioral health unit. The primary care network includes four mixed adult/pediatric clinics, one adult care clinic, and one pediatric care clinic, employing over 30 primary care providers serving approximately 31,000 patients. The clinics are supported by the Vermont Blueprint for Health for behavioral health and case management. SVMC also aims to expand primary care through APP training and retention, increased virtual support, and telemedicine services. The patient population is predominantly geriatric but diverse in socioeconomic status and life experiences.
