About The Position

Under the supervision of the Corewell Health Medical Group (CHMG) President/Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the Physician Executive provides leadership as part of a dyad physician-operator team for all operational, financial, and human resources (HR) management; strategy and development; organizational leadership; and patient-centric experience. In addition, the Physician Executive works in collaboration with the Vice President of the service and is responsible for group performance in quality of care, promoting BHMG policies and procedures, ensuring consistent standards of practice, and proactively managing the provider culture of BHMG operations in alignment with the BHMG and Beaumont Health mission, values, and strategic vision.

Requirements

  • BE/BC in Radiation Oncology
  • Interest in teaching and supervision of medical students, residents and fellows
  • Unrestricted License - Michigan MD/DO
  • Unrestricted DEA License
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership/administrative experience in physician practice management is required.
  • He/she must be a licensed physician.
  • The Physician Executive must have demonstrated effectiveness in managing and directing departmental operations and management/supervisory personnel, as well as evaluating, training and motivating performance.
  • He/she must also have the ability to accomplish results through others, delegate effectively and establish clear guidelines for accountability, and build consensus and provide strong leadership in a team environment, with the highest level of professional and personal integrity.
  • He/she must have exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to persuade colleagues.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary in order to work with medical or nursing staff, resolve problems and concerns regarding clinical services.
  • Strong program development skills are required, with a proven track record in the development of high-quality clinical services.
  • Knowledge of current reimbursement and clinical issues confronting health systems at all levels.

Nice To Haves

  • An advanced degree from an accredited college or university in health services administration, business administration, or a related area of graduate study is preferred.
  • Experience with employed physician practices is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Creates a culture of clinical excellence and a focus on patient satisfaction.
  • Communicates and disseminates information to physician members.
  • Works in close partnership with the operations administrator.
  • Participates in the drafting and review of appropriate information aimed at educating physicians and other healthcare providers on the service line.
  • Represents the division at requested community presentations, meetings, and forums.
  • Ensures the appropriate infrastructure exists to deliver high-quality care.
  • Establishes systems and processes that ensure effective clinical operations and manages the reporting on the operational performance to the CHMG Leadership.
  • Implements an operating structure to achieve targeted effective, efficient performance.
  • Develops practice standards, including productivity by physician groups and site.
  • Evaluates and supervises the improvement of physician coding.
  • Leads performance improvement teams as required to improve measurable quality, safety, and patient flow across the continuum of care.
  • Establishes and monitors key performance indicators and quality targets.
  • Monitors adherence to the risk management and compliance program.
  • Develops, administers, and communicates practices and procedures consistent with institutional policies and strategies.
  • Establishes systems to ensure effective clinic/physician utilization and patient throughput.
  • Evaluates the clinical value of all departmental operations regarding the selection and installation of capital equipment, facilities renovations, and facilities maintenance projects.
  • Participates in physician mentoring, recruitment, acquisition, and retention.
  • Works with health system and departmental physician leadership to identify best practices for the deployment and ongoing support of all provider-facing information technology systems.
  • Oversees the clinical practice, including managed care and medical service plan issues.
  • Provides physician input regarding financial forecasting and planning for the physician enterprise.
  • Proactively evaluates clinical operations for potential implementation of cost-effective changes.
  • Leads the implementation of approved changes and monitors data for cost savings, program outcomes, and customer satisfaction.
  • In collaboration with HR, ensures systems and processes are in place to recruit and retain physician and provider staff.
  • Manages departmental physicians to ensure the timely and accurate posting of all physician and facility charges.
  • Provides leadership to all provider staff in a collaborative environment that offers job satisfaction and recognition and stimulates innovative thinking.
  • Establishes expectations for high levels of performance and holds physicians and staff accountable.
  • Establishes clear, accurate, and actionable key performance indicators and is responsible for managing departmental staff to achieve top-quartile performance.
  • Ensures all physicians understand their roles in accomplishing programmatic objectives.
  • Leads department and cross-functional teams to resolve interdepartmental and intradepartmental problems and to improve operational outcomes/initiatives.
  • Provides physician and clinical insight to facilitate key planning activities for the enterprise and uses data and market intelligence to inform action plans.
  • Develops relationships within the community to enhance the BHMG enterprise brand.
  • Coordinates with local hospital and post-acute leadership to ensure recruitment and manpower plans are consistent with their strategic priorities.
  • Explores new opportunities to transform existing delivery models into value-based pathways that will position the health system for new payor mechanisms and the evolving healthcare landscape.
  • Manages collaboratively with other departments and the physician staff.
  • Champions projects utilizing project management skills.
  • Serves on all relevant health system committees.
  • Collaborates with other health system and physician leaders to identify, reduce, and eliminate barriers that may negatively affect patient care and customer satisfaction.
  • Fosters a culture of customer service and patient-centric processes, operations, and care.
  • Develops patient relations standards reflecting excellence and ensures all employed physicians and staff are held accountable for adhering to these standards.
  • Models and upholds a patient and family-centric approach to care delivery.
  • Identifies and analyzes trends in patient satisfaction and provides leadership in establishing expectations and resolving negative trends through collaboration with health system and physician leadership.
