Requirements
- MD or DO degree, or equivalent.
- Completion of an ACGME accredited U.S. Internal Medicine residency.
- U.S. board eligible or board certified in Internal Medicine.
- Eligible for medical licensure in the state of Alabama.
- Commitment to high quality, collaborative inpatient care.
- Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat hospitalized patients using appropriate medical diagnostic and treatment skills.
- Serve as an admitting, attending, and/or consulting physician based on the needs of patients, the medical staff, and the hospital.
- Manage approximately six to eight admissions per shift, with an emphasis on higher acuity and medically complex patients.
- Assist with call coverage for existing hospitalized patients for approximately half of the overnight period.
- Work collaboratively with the nocturnist and other members of the hospitalist team to provide safe, timely, and efficient patient care during periods of increased admission volume.
- Participate in efforts to improve the quality, safety, and cost effectiveness of patient care.
- Provide timely and appropriate clinical documentation that meets hospital, regulatory, and payer requirements.
- Participation in medical education, research, and other academic activities may be requested.
- Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements.
- Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards.
- Regular and prompt attendance.
- Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
- Related duties as assigned.
