About The Position

As a Physician Coding Auditor, you will help ensure accurate medical coding, documentation compliance, and the integrity of provider billing. You will review clinical documentation, conduct audits, and work with physicians and team members to align coding practices with applicable guidelines and regulations. The role involves reviewing inpatient and outpatient coding and billing, communicating audit findings, supporting physicians and clinic staff with coding and compliance questions, and collaborating to clarify diagnoses, procedures, and documentation. The position contributes to accurate coding, compliant billing, and quality patient care.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Current certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Coding Specialist–Physician (CCS-P).
• Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding systems.
• Ability to review and interpret clinical documentation and accurately evaluate coding assignments.

Nice To Haves

• 1–3 years of coding experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct internal audits and reviews of provider documentation for inpatient and outpatient coding and billing.
• Review clinical documentation to ensure CPT and ICD-10 codes are accurately assigned.
• Communicate audit findings to physicians and appropriate management staff through written reports and verbal discussions.
• Monitor provider compliance with the auditing program and report noncompliance to appropriate individuals.
• Review insurance guidelines to support accurate coding and documentation compliance.
• Serve as a resource for Physicians Billing and clinic staff regarding coding, documentation, and compliance questions.
• Collaborate with physicians to clarify diagnoses, procedures, and supporting documentation.
• Interpret applicable coding guidelines, policies, and regulations to support compliant billing practices.
• Identify and consult appropriate resources and management staff when questions or concerns arise.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
