The Physician Associate works collaboratively with all members of the care team providing world class service to both the patients and staff of Martin’s Point. Maine Revised Statutes, Title 32 #3270-A and Chapters 2 and 3 of the Rules of the Board of Registration in Medicine provide for Associates to physicians and surgeons if they work under the supervision of a licensed physician or doctor of osteopathy. The Associate must have graduated from a training program approved by the Board of Registration in Medicine or by the Board of Registration in Osteopathic Medicine, must be registered and certified by the board, and must be national certified eligible or have passed the national certified examination for the physician Associate. The scope of practice cannot exceed that delegated by the supervising physician or alternative supervising physician. The Associate’s prescriptive practice is dictated by the scope of the supervisor’s practice.
