About The Position

Join Hartford Hospital’s established and advancing Inpatient Procedure Team! This highly specialized role offers Advanced Practice Providers the opportunity to develop and refine their procedure skills within a collaborative, high-acuity medical environment. As an integral member of the Department of Surgery, APPs work closely with surgeons, hospitalists, APPs and multidisciplinary care teams to care for a variety of patients. Team members perform a wide range of bedside ultrasound-guided procedures, including paracentesis, thoracentesis, lumbar punctures, central venous catheter insertions, and fluid collection drainages. Team members also spend time in the outpatient setting seeing consults for soft tissue masses and performing excisions. This position is ideal for motivated Physician Assistants seeking procedural autonomy and ongoing skill advancement. Requirements

  • Unrestricted State of Connecticut Medical License (or eligible)
  • Certified or board-eligible Physician Assistant
  • 1+ years as a Physician Assistant
  • At least three years of surgical or procedural experience

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years’ experience as a Physician Assistant in an inpatient/acute care setting
  • Ideally with experience in various procedures

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine physical examinations.
  • Formulate medical, educational, and psychosocial plans to treat patients.
  • Develop plans for further evaluation of health needs, e.g., referral to other health team members or specialists.
  • Provide appropriate treatment for problems within the scope of the provider’s practice as designated by protocols.
  • Identify problems outside of their scope of practice and refer appropriately to physician.
  • Perform a wide range of bedside ultrasound-guided procedures, including paracentesis, thoracentesis, lumbar punctures, central venous catheter insertions, and fluid collection drainages.
  • See consults for soft tissue masses and performing excisions in the outpatient setting.
