About The Position

Roanoke College is seeking a Part-time Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to provide high-quality, student-centered primary care in a small, collaborative college health clinic. This role focuses on acute care, wellness, preventive services, and health education for a diverse undergraduate population. The ideal candidate is comfortable practicing independently within their scope, enjoys working with young adults, and values a holistic, educational approach to care. Requirements

Current unrestricted licensure as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the state of Virginia.
National certification (NCCPA for PAs; AANP/ANCC for NPs).
DEA registration or eligibility.
Current BLS certification.
Experience in primary care, urgent care, family medicine, internal medicine, or adolescent medicine.
Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a small team.
Excellent communication skills and a student-centered, empathetic approach.

Ability to manage time efficiently in a low to moderate volume but variable clinical environment.

Responsibilities

Provide evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for common acute and chronic conditions seen in a college health setting (e.g., respiratory infections, minor injuries, dermatologic concerns, GI issues, mental health concerns within scope).
Perform physical exams, including sports, travel, and employment physicals.
Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic tests (labs, imaging, point-of-care testing).
Prescribe medications in accordance with state regulations and collaborative practice agreements.
Provide sexual and reproductive health services, including STI testing/treatment, contraception counseling, and pregnancy testing.
Offer health education, counseling, and preventive care tailored to college-aged students.
Collaborate with clinic nurses, administrative staff, and supervising physician (if required by state law).
Maintain accurate, timely electronic health records and documentation.
Participate in quality improvement, policy development, and campus wellness initiatives as needed.
Support public health responsibilities such as immunization compliance, outbreak response, and health promotion campaigns.
Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic studies and laboratory tests.
Combines medical history, physical examination and diagnostic test data to arrive at a working diagnosis.
Formulates a plan of treatment for management of specified illnesses.
Documents complete, accurate, and confidential data in the health record.
Refers patients to college physicians, outside specialists, counseling services or other appropriate providers when necessary.
Practices in compliance with HIPAA, FERPA, and state laws to maintain privacy and confidentiality.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with faculty and staff.
