About The Position

The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation. The PA works under the supervision and direction of board-certified emergency medicine physicians to ensure high quality, safe, and timely care for patients with various chief complaints. The PA team manages high acuity patients and procedures. They have the opportunity to teach PA students and benefit from our own educational program to develop as a clinician. The PA may assume care for patients of all ages and will support all areas of the department. The PA will also perform medical screening exams and respond to any acute developments during the patients stay. At the Newton Wellesley Emergency Department, we care for approximately 75,000 patients every year. Our facility includes 35,000 square feet of space with both adult and pediatric trauma rooms. The emergency room treatment area is divided into an adult 44 bed general emergency area open 24 hours per day. A separate 8-bed pediatric emergency area is open up to 21hrs per day 8am-5am. This area is staffed with specialty trained pediatric emergency physicians and child life specialists.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree Physician Assistant required
  • Physician Assistant [State License] - Generic - HR Only required

  • Previous Emergency Medicine experience as a Physician Assistant strong preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting.
  • Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
  • Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.
  • Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.
  • May also perform additional duties, such as precepting a small group of learners.
