About The Position

The Physician Assistant (PA) works under the approved Physician Assistant Job Description and within service-, clinic-, or department-specific functions established with supervising physicians and approved by relevant medical and nursing administrators and committees. The PA may perform only services within their competence and must consult or refer to a supervising physician when a task, procedure, or diagnostic problem exceeds that competence. The role supports liver transplant surgical care at Stanford Health Care and includes patient evaluation, treatment, care coordination, and assistance in the operating room under physician supervision. The PA evaluates and treats acute and chronic complaints and health-maintenance concerns related to the specialty; takes histories and performs physical examinations; orders and evaluates diagnostic studies; and orders or furnishes medications under physician supervision and applicable practice agreements. The role also includes ordering and collecting specimens, arranging therapies and nursing services, performing designated procedures after demonstrating competency, obtaining informed consent, coordinating admissions and discharges, and supporting approved investigational studies as directed. After appropriate training, the PA assists in the operating room as a first or second assistant under an approved supervising physician and performs surgical procedures in that physician’s presence. The PA recognizes age-specific patient needs, communicates effectively with patients and families from diverse backgrounds, responds to situations requiring immediate physician attention, and initiates life-saving procedures when necessary. The position also coordinates inpatient and outpatient services, collaborates with providers and community resources, supports compliance and quality improvement, and provides patient education and counseling. Employees are expected to meet Joint Commission requirements and Stanford Health Care’s C-I-CARE patient-experience standards, which emphasize anticipating patient needs, guiding patients and families, and coordinating complex care. This is a Stanford Health Care position with an eight-hour day schedule. The stated base pay scale generally starts at $91.68 and ranges to $121.48 per hour; final pay depends on factors including internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
