About The Position

The Surgical PA provides patient care in collaboration with specific surgeons face-to-face or via telehealth on communication devices such as phone or computer. Conducts surgical history/physical exams, orders and interprets diagnostic/lab tests and develops plan of care. Writes prescriptions, controlled substances per Delineation of Privileges. First assists in surgery. Performs surgical procedures in the operating room under the direct supervision of the surgeon. Performs procedures in the clinic under direct or indirect supervision. The synergistic relationship with the surgeon and highly technical skills increases patient safety and positive surgical outcomes. Enables the continuity of care by managing patients in the pre, intra and post operative settings. Performs inpatient rounding, consultations, wound care and bedside procedures. In the outpatient setting, manages clinics, clinic procedures, facilitates family and patient education, and participates in grand rounds. Works directly with staff, administration, patients and families to ensure quality care across the continuum as an expert in surgical practice areas. Performs on-call coverage requiring high-level decision making on weekdays, weeknights, and weekends inclusive of surgery.

Requirements

  • Masters degree.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification.
  • Physician Assistant license.
  • Drug Enforcement Administration license.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • 5 years of APP experience required.
  • Obtain medical staff credentialing and privileges.
  • Compliant with state requirements for CEUs/CMEs and licensure renewal.
  • DEA License, Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support required as per specialty.
  • Experience in vein harvesting.
  • National Certification.
  • Minimum Required Experience: 5 Years
