A Physician Assistant is a healthcare professional licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. This role provides health care services to patients under the direction and responsibility of physician(s), diagnosing and treating diseases of human skin. This includes examining patients, performing comprehensive physical examinations, and compiling patient medical data, such as health history and physical examination results. The Physician Assistant diagnoses patient conditions by examining skin to determine the nature of the disease, administers or orders diagnostic tests like blood samples, smears, and skin biopsies, and interprets test results. They treat illnesses, abscesses, skin injuries, malignancies, skin infections, and other skin conditions, and perform therapeutic procedures such as injections. The role also involves assisting Physician(s) in surgical procedures, surgically excising cutaneous malignancies, cysts, birthmarks, and other growths, suturing, and wound care. They develop and implement patient management plans, record progress notes, and ensure continuity of care. Additionally, they instruct and counsel patients on compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens and health maintenance, and prescribe and administer medications under physician supervision and according to state regulations.
