About The Position

The Physician Assistant (PA) Urgent Care is a licensed, certified healthcare provider who renders direct patient care and has prescriptive authority. They are credentialed, privileged, and billed as an independent provider by Medicare and Medicaid. The Advanced Practice Provider offers medical care based on the supervising physician's scope of practice. They typically care for patients in an urgent or convenient care clinic. This role is with a well-established Baylor Scott & White Urgent Care clinic in the desirable Bee Cave/Austin area. The practice is high-volume and fast-paced, averaging 24-30 patients per shift. The team is collaborative, working alongside experienced APPs and supervising physicians with strong clinical support, and includes dedicated support staff such as a Medical Assistant, LVN, Front Desk (PSS), and X-Ray services.

Requirements

  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of Texas
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer
  • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA)
  • Grad of an Accredited Program
  • Less than 1 Year of Experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experienced Providers Preferred – Minimum of 1 year of APP experience preferred
  • Know the information and techniques to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
  • Knowledge of practices, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and treat new and established patients
  • Handle same-day acute care visits
  • Manage follow-up appointments
  • Individual and shared in-basket management
  • Assesses the physical and mental condition of patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories.
  • Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
  • Prescribes or recommends medical drug therapies or other therapeutic treatments.
  • Performs procedures following approved policies, focusing on efficacy, safety, and cost.
  • Recommends interventions to change behavior linked to health risks.
  • Formulates and implements comprehensive patient treatment plans based on assessments.
  • Uses evidence-based medicine, standards of care, and guidelines.
  • Collaborates with physicians and team members when appropriate.
  • Evaluates patient's response to care and its effectiveness.
  • Counsels patients and families on medical processes, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion.
  • Counsels patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with food supplements, over-the-counter medications, and herbal remedies.
  • Maintains appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes.
  • Initiates timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice or expertise.
  • Provides consultation level services for conditions/problems related to the Provider’s specialty and training.
  • Performs invasive procedures specific to scope of practice and provider’s level of expertise as delegated by supervising Physician.
  • May be required to perform patient care duties beyond regular schedule based on coverage needs of the department.
