Physician Assistant - Division of Orthopedic Surgery
About The Position
Under the direction of a supervising physician, the Physician Assistant is responsible for the direct care and follow up of a population of patients that match his/her Scope of Practice and skill set. The components of the role include clinical practice, consultation, professional development, education, and research. This position is a hybrid role with some OR first assisting in the Virtua Surgery Center and ambulatory clinic at our other locations. This position will primarily work with our upper extremity team but also supporting the sports team. You will be required to travel to CHOP's Main Campus, Virtua Voorhees, King of Prussia, Bucks County, Abington, Brandywine and Princeton Specialty Care Centers. The perfect candidate will have flexibility and be comfortable with the travel. The ideal candidate will be someone that wants to make pediatric Orthopedics their career and grow professionally at CHOP Orthopedic Surgery.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree Physician Assistant.
- Licensed Physician Assistant - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required
- Licensed Physician Assistant - New Jersey State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required
- Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) - National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants - upon hire - Required
- Prescriptive Authority (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - within 3 months - Required
- Prescriptive Authority (New Jersey) - New Jersey State Licensing Board - within 3 months - Required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - upon hire - Required
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - upon hire - Required
- Ability to work in a team setting with multiple responsibilities.
- Ability to use computer and electronic medical records effectively.
Nice To Haves
- Employees hired and placed in position previous to 09/03/23 are only required to have technical diploma.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - - Preferred
Responsibilities
- Utilizes advanced assessment skills to manage a cohort of patients.
- Performs and documents daily assessments.
- Collects and analyzes data and formulates a family-centered plan of care.
- Evaluates and monitors the effectiveness of the prescribed treatment plan.
- Communicates the plan of care and changes to this plan to the supervising physician.
- Performs any needed advanced procedures that are listed in the Scope of Practice document and approved as a part of the credentialing process.
- Acts as a consultant to multidisciplinary healthcare team members.
- Participates in scholarly activities including research and education.
- Participates in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate educational offerings.
- Participates in the professional development of others and serves as an educational resource to the patient/family, nursing staff and provider team.
- Acts as a preceptor and mentor to support the development of physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, students and other health care providers.
- Demonstrates a commitment to patient safety by speaking up about safety issues and changing practices to enhance safety.
- Shares errors or potential errors through system reporting mechanisms.
- Demonstrates shared accountability for safe practice.
