About The Position

Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) has an opportunity for a part-time Physician Assistant for the Health Equity for Adolescents in the Legal System (HEAL) program with the Administration for Children's Services (ACS). This role is part of a new NYC Health + Hospitals initiative to provide medical services to young people in City custody across various detention and non-secure sites. Services include comprehensive medical screenings, dental care, vaccinations, immediate medical needs response, and referrals for offsite care. Requirements

  • Current New York State Physician Assistant registration.
  • Current certification issued by the NCCPA.
  • Experience in Acute Care, College Health, Community Health, Family Health, Holistic Care, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, School Health, and/or Women's Health.
  • Must pass all appropriate screenings to work in a secured setting with young people.

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical care to ACS adolescents, prioritizing safety and security.
  • Take patient history, identify needs, and make diagnoses.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans.
  • Perform complete well-care examinations, including physical and gynecological examinations.
  • Write prescriptions and educate patients on medication usage, obtaining parent/guardian consent when necessary.
  • Complete medical forms and documentation.
  • Make and track referrals to other agencies and providers, ensuring follow-up care.
  • Assist with phlebotomy as needed.
  • Administer immunizations.
  • Distribute, refill, discard, and discontinue medication for patients.
  • Complete Court Orders and all other ACS mandated paperwork.
  • Evaluate and treat ACS employees on an emergent basis only.
  • Provide health education on preventive medicine, chronic diseases, parenting, prenatal care, nutrition, family planning, medication usage, and stress management.
  • Act as on-site supervisor of Patient Care Associates in the field.
  • Teach PCAs about patient care and triage to improve patient flow and communicate with the Director of Nursing.
  • Participate in case conferences.
  • Assist the Medical Director in developing and implementing medical protocols and forms.
  • May initiate and participate in research related to healthcare in collaboration with the Medical Director.
