About The Position

We are hiring a Physician Assistant to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment for adult substance abusing population, mentally ill chemical abusers, and mentally ill patients. The role involves assessing prospective patients for admission, managing detoxification and rehabilitation, and addressing immediate health issues within outpatient, residential, rehabilitation, or detox settings. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Current/valid New York State Physician Assistant (PA) license
  • Currently registered as a registered professional Physician Assistant in good standing
  • DEA license
  • Hold all requirements indicated by the NY Department of Drug and Alcohol Program to perform history and physicals and prescribe medications.
  • Current basic life support for health providers (BLS)
  • Five (5) years of related work experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment for adult substance abusing population, mentally ill chemical abusers, and mentally ill patients.
  • Assess prospective patients for admission to detoxify and rehabilitate to the facility for appropriate level of care.
  • Address any immediate ongoing health issues that can be assisted at the outpatient, residential, rehabilitation, or detox level of care.
  • Conduct evaluation with relevant history and health assessment based on the patient's signs & symptoms.
  • Identify patient needs and make a differential diagnosis based on clinical presentation, history, and clinical findings.
  • Conduct waived testing for urine.
  • Develop a prioritized and mutually acceptable plan of care in collaboration with the physician.
  • Implement a treatment plan with appropriate diagnostic tests, pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, patient education, and referrals.
  • Provide systematic follow-up by evaluating treatment effectiveness and modifying plans as necessary.
  • Provide educational materials and information for patients to make informed health choices.
  • Facilitate patient entry into the mental health care system with appropriate utilization of services.
  • Provide a safe environment for the patient and promote patient advocacy.
  • Participate with professional colleagues to provide comprehensive mental health care.
  • Maintain accurate, legible, and confidential medical records.
  • Conduct medical groups and educational seminars for patients.
