About The Position

Nova Southeastern University (NSU) is seeking a Physician Assistant faculty member. NSU, founded in 1964, is a not-for-profit university known for academic excellence and innovation. This role serves as a primary faculty member responsible for developing and revising the program's mission, goals, and competencies; selecting applicants; providing student instruction and academic counseling; ensuring remedial instruction is available; designing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating the curriculum; and evaluating the program. Demonstrated experience in educating students, with a prior faculty appointment or clinical background as a Physician Assistant or other healthcare professional with expertise in an academic area within the Health Professions Division is required.

Requirements

  • Appointment to the rank of assistant professor requires completion of professional training, which in most disciplines will be a terminal degree (usually the earned doctorate), and the clear promise of a successful career in teaching, scholarship, and service.
  • Appointment to the rank of associate professor normally requires a record of substantial success in teaching, scholarship, and service.
  • Appointment to the rank of professor requires a record of distinguished scholarship and outstanding teaching ability, evidenced by recognized professional productivity in the field(s) of specialization.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals.
  • Ability to effectively present information to students, public groups, or professional organizations in the English language.
  • Ability to work with appropriate mathematical concepts specific to the particular discipline.
  • Ability to apply concepts to practical situations.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.).
  • Eligible for licensure in the state of Florida, if applicable.
  • Master's Degree in a related area of specialization.
  • Five (5) years of related experience and/or training, including clinical experience.
  • Physician Assistant or related health professional.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctoral degree in related area of specialization and five (5) years of experience in healthcare.
  • Current NCCPA certification preferred.
  • Eligible for licensure in the State of Florida, if applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches undergraduate or graduate Physician Assistant course(s) in the classroom as assigned.
  • Selects teaching and evaluation strategies appropriate to the students and setting.
  • Presents ideas clearly.
  • Creates a climate that is conducive to learning.
  • Provides and maintains a reliable schedule of office hours for student advising, tutoring, remediation, and consultation.
  • Participates in department, college-wide, and university-wide committees and meetings.
  • Engages in curriculum development related to current and new courses.
  • Maintains a personal professional development plan, which may include research or other creative activities, to assure growth and currency within the academic field.
  • Displays behavior consistent with professional ethics.
  • May manage subordinates in the classroom or laboratory.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the University's policies and applicable laws.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
