Physician Assistant -- General Surgery
About The Position
Phelps Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for its General Surgery service. The role manages surgical patients from preoperative evaluation through postoperative follow-up, working alongside surgeons and the care team in clinic, inpatient units, and the operating room. This is a full-time position based at Phelps Health Hospital in Rolla, Missouri. Responsibilities
- Perform histories and physicals; diagnose and manage surgical conditions.
- Order and interpret labs and imaging, and prescribe within scope of practice.
- Assess, educate, and optimize patients before surgery, including obtaining informed consent.
- Round on inpatients and manage postoperative care, wounds, drains, and complications.
- Assist in the operating room and perform credentialed bedside and clinic procedures.
- Coordinate discharge planning and care with nursing, anesthesia, and other services.
- Document accurately, support quality improvement, and mentor staff and students.
