About The Position

The Incidentaloma Institute ensures timely and clinically appropriate care for patients with radiographic findings through identification, surveillance, referral, evaluation, treatment, and/or monitoring. We are looking for a dedicated ambulatory Physician Assistant, who will support the Incidentaloma Institute’s clinic, attendings, advance practice providers, nursing, and patient care pathways. Under direct supervision of the clinic’s physician network, this candidate will be monitoring Best Practice Advisories from Radiology, capturing and triaging referrals, and delivering high-quality medical care in a collaborative environment.

Requirements

  • Qualified Physician Assistants will hold at least a Bachelor's degree.
  • Must be a graduate of a PA Program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. (ARC-PA) or its predecessor.
  • National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA) PANCE eligible.
  • Eligible for PA licensure in the State of Massachusetts.
  • Documentation of Massachusetts PA license and initial NCCPA certification are required upon hire.
  • If prescribing medications is included in clinical duties and privileges, Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration and federal DEA Controlled Substance Registration are required.

Responsibilities

  • Obtaining complete medical history and performing a physical examination.
  • Ordering and interpreting laboratory tests and imaging studies.
  • Formulating a diagnosis and treatment plan.
  • Prescribing and/or dispensing medication.
  • Counseling patients and families.
  • Evaluating, treating, and discharging patients of the Incidentaloma Institute’s clinic and the subspecialties it partners with.
  • Monitoring Best Practice Advisories from Radiology, as well as direct referrals to the Incidentaloma Institute.
  • Tracking patient care transitions and ensuring timely clinical evaluation and intervention.
  • Triaging patients into clinic visits with the appropriate provider type, visit type, and subspecialty.
  • Initiating and/or conducting incidentaloma work-up prior to physician evaluation and subsequent treatment.
  • Following clinical guidelines and protocols provided by each subspecialty MD.
  • Examining patients and establishing care plans in collaboration with subspecialty MDs.
  • Coordinating appropriate follow-up per Incidentaloma Institute care guidelines.
  • Collaborating with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate multidisciplinary incidentaloma care.
  • Documenting patient interactions, diagnoses, and treatment plans in the hospital’s electronic medical records and any additional patient trackers provided by the Incidentaloma Institute.
  • Performing and/or interpreting routine diagnostic studies, including routine laboratory procedures, common radiological studies, and electrocardiograph tracings.
  • Performing therapeutic procedures, including injections, immunizations, wound care, suturing, incision and drainage of superficial infections, and wound debridement.
  • Acting as a liaison with primary care, attending providers, or referring providers to ensure the delivery of services to patients requiring continuous care.
  • Facilitating communication with other departments to ensure the delivery of cost-effective and efficient patient care.
  • Educating patients and/or families about preventive care, medical issues, and use of prescribed medical treatments and/or medications.
  • Recording and maintaining legible, accurate, and confidential patient medical records including initial evaluation, subsequent follow-up, unusual incidents or problems, and patient progress.
  • Transcribing pre-operative and post-operative orders, including prescription medication, fluid orders, diets, activity levels, and other procedures, under the counter-signature of the attending physician.
  • Writing appropriate prescription orders, including those for narcotics, stimulants, and depressant drugs, as well as pre- and post-operative orders.
  • Ensuring treatment and consultations are consistent with NCQA, TJC, and federal and state regulatory standards.
  • Attending and participating in regular staff meetings.
  • Helping clinic managers drive performance improvement with regard to their own role and scope of work.
  • Ensuring professional growth and development through participation in educational programs and workshops.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and practices.
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality and conforming to hospital standards of performance and conduct.
  • Following established hospital infection control and safety procedures.
  • Utilizing the hospital’s cultural beliefs as a basis for decision making and supporting the organization’s mission and goals.
