About The Position

Under the supervision of a physician, the Physician Assistant provides direct diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services. This role involves obtaining patient history, performing assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic procedures, and providing direct treatment and management of health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources. The Physician Assistant will also counsel and educate patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options, and community resources. Responsibilities may include performing preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations, and care, as well as coordinating registration functions and assisting in the operating room. The position requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work in a stressful environment while taking appropriate action. The Physician Assistant is expected to support Owensboro Health’s Mission, Vision, Core Commitments, and business interests, adhere to organizational policies and procedures, and execute tasks consistent with a culture of compliance, safety, and high reliability.

Requirements

  • No experience required
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies required upon hire OR Bachelor's degree or higher in related field required upon hire
  • Current licensure as a Physician Assistant in the state of Kentucky required upon hire
  • National Physician Assistant certification through National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) required upon hire
  • Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview, and examination.
  • Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic procedures.
  • Provides direct treatment and management of health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.
  • Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options, and community resources.
  • May be required to perform preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations, and care.
  • Provides accurate and timely documentation of assessment and patient care plan.
  • May coordinate the registration functions including collecting and entering demographic, insurance, employer information, and co-payments.
  • May assist in operating room.

  • Adheres to all organizational policies and procedures.
