About The Position

The Department of Neurosurgery is seeking a Physician Assistant (PA) to join the adult Spine Neurosurgery team in an outpatient setting. The PA will be responsible for patient-oriented tasks including interviewing patients, taking medical histories, performing physical examinations, ordering tests, coordinating care, educating patients and families, conducting clinic sessions, and prescribing treatments. The role involves collaboration with inpatient APP/residents for seamless patient care transitions and may include participation in research initiatives.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree
Certification by the NCCPA or similar national certifying body
Completion of a CAAHEP certified Physician Assistant program
Licensed as PA in State of Maryland or other state where practicing
Current CPR certification
Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment
Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date
Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Responsibilities

Coordinate the care of patients with the Neurosurgery Spine attending, facilitating efficient movement through the healthcare system.
Screen and interview patients, take and record patient histories, and consult with physicians and other health care providers to recommend a plan of care.
Prescribe medications to patients.
Provide follow-up patient care in clinic.
Counsel and instruct patients and their significant others regarding health conditions, therapies, and procedures.
Make decisions regarding data gathering and management/treatment of patients for initial evaluation or follow-up of diagnosed conditions.
Initiate requests for laboratory studies and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Participate in the coordination of research projects, including patient enrollment and documentation management.
Develop policies and procedures to facilitate optimal patient care.
Contribute to the design of clinical and/or research protocols and procedures.
Participate in daily operations of clinical and/or research protocols in collaboration with other staff.
Perform other duties as assigned.
