About The Position

The Virginia Department of Health’s Central Virginia Health District is hiring an experienced Physician Assistant to provide patient care. The role has limited or no on-site access to a physician for guidance and oversight. The position requires licensure as a Physician Assistant under state code.

The Physician Assistant performs physical examinations, orders diagnostic tests, prescribes controlled substances, and may conduct or direct nursing assessments and laboratory tests. The role also includes taking measurements and developing and implementing care plans, including medication administration and case management.

Requirements

• Licensure as a Physician Assistant under state code.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of public health and clinical medicine.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Ability to assess situations, resolve them within the scope of ability, or escalate as appropriate.
• Skill in administering public health programs and directing a large and diverse organization in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in all aspects of the role.

Nice To Haves

• Previous clinical experience with the population served.
• Successful completion of the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE).
