About The Position

This position is for a Physician Assistant - Urology at Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center in Saginaw, MI. The role involves obtaining medical histories, performing physical examinations, and documenting patient progress. The Physician Assistant will provide and coordinate medical care for assigned patients, including establishing diagnoses, formulating care plans, and providing follow-up. This includes ordering diagnostic studies, managing patient education, ordering laboratory specimens, and reviewing medical status. The position also entails ordering ancillary services, VA specialty consults, and prescribing medications. The Physician Assistant will prepare incident reports, participate in team discussions, and perform other assigned duties.

  • Master's degree in any discipline or a bachelor's degree in any discipline with one year of experience as a Physician Assistant
  • Successfully passed the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE) (or are you in the process to taking the exam)
  • Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.

  • Ability to implement and initiate clinical changes to established treatment protocols based upon new medical literature research findings to enhance patient delivery care for improved patient outcomes.
  • Ability to participate clinically in the development of the PA patient care audit processes involving in-depth review and analysis of medical records.

Responsibilities

  • Obtaining medical histories, perform physical examinations, mental status examinations, progress notes and discharge summaries under the guidance of the Collaborating Physician.
  • Providing and coordinating medical care for assigned patients in any care setting, including establishing diagnoses, formulating and implementing care plans, and providing follow-up care.
  • Evaluating patients to determine the need for further health care.
  • Ordering all diagnostic studies and other special tests/studies, such as EEG, ECG, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computerized Tomography (CT) scans, etc.
  • Carrying out health promotion, disease prevention, and patient/family education activities.
  • Ordering or obtaining laboratory specimens.
  • Continuously reviews medical status of patients, including the review of laboratory/diagnostic reports and progress notes.
  • Acts upon abnormal findings within the provision of appropriate care and in consultation with the collaborating physician or pertinent specialist if needed.
  • Ordering ancillary services, such as patient care supplies, pharmacy, social services, physical medicine and rehabilitation therapies, prosthetic services, etc.
  • Ordering VA specialty service consults and initiating requests for non-VA medical care and consults in accordance with VHA and local facility policy and procedures.
  • Writing orders for or prescribing all VA formulary/non- formulary medications as appropriate to their practice area/assignments.
  • Prepare and sign incident reports and informs Collaborating Physician.
  • Participates in team discussions and treatment plan reviews, especially as it pertains to veteran's medical status
  • Other duties as assigned.
