Locum - Physician Assistant (PA) - Urgent Care
About The Position
We are seeking three full-time Physician Assistants (PAs) to provide coverage in an urgent care setting. The clinics operate 7 days a week, from 8 AM to 8 PM, with providers working 12+ hour shifts, three shifts per week. This role involves providing comprehensive outpatient services to a diverse patient population, ranging from neonates to geriatrics. Responsibilities include performing minor procedures, interpreting diagnostic tests, and managing acute conditions. The average daily patient volume ranges from 25 to 50 patients, with an expected increase during cold and flu seasons. Facilities are equipped for episodic care, with transfers to higher-level facilities for more critical cases. The documentation system used is Epic. Credentialing is estimated to take 60 to 90 days, with no temporary credentialing available.
Requirements
- Board Certification
- Current Virginia medical license
- Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Valid DEA registration
- Minimum 1 year of experience in an ED, ER, primary care, or urgent care setting
- Clean professional background with no malpractice or licensing issues
- Client stipulates no travel reimbursement; only local candidates or inclusive rates accepted
Responsibilities
- Perform laceration repair (simple, intermediate, and complex suturing/stapling)
- Perform incision and drainage (I&D), including packing
- Perform foreign body removal
- Provide minor burn care
- Manage skin lesions
- Perform orthopedic stabilization (splinting and casting, joint reduction)
- Conduct diagnostic and point-of-care testing
- Interpret X-rays and electrocardiograms (EKG)
- Interpret point-of-care lab results (rapid strep, flu, COVID-19, RSV, urinalysis, blood glucose)
- Manage epistaxis (anterior nasal packing, chemical cautery)
- Perform cerumen impaction removal
- Provide airway support, including nebulizer administration and initial emergency stabilization
- Attend to all patients presenting during operational hours
